The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:

I have decided to be an au pair because I am very interested in learning about other cultures and countries. I have always enjoyed traveling abroad and canít wait to expand on my cultural and foreign experiences. So, far I have been to Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, and Australia. I would also like to meet new friends and get abroad experience to become more responsible and independent. I think this is the ideal way because I like children and I am used to looking after them.

My Interests:

My name is Katy and I am 18. I study environmental engineering at the University of Minnesota in the midwest United States. I was born and raised in the capitol city of Minnesota called St. Paul. The University I study at is in Minneapolis, which is about 20 minutes away from my home. I chose to live on campus and I have a wonderful roommate, Kari. There are two major cities in Minnesota called the Twin Cities. The Twin Cities consist of St. Paul and Minneapolis. I live grew up in the suburbs of St. Paul and now live and study in downtown Minneapolis. I love the city, but I also love getting out of the city and spending time in nature. I spend a lot of time outdoors. I enjoy camping, hiking, and kayaking amongst other outdoor activities. I like all kinds of sports, play the piano, ukulele, and clarinet and also take part in many clubs and organizations at my University.

Family Letter:

Dear Family,

First let me introduce myself. My name is Katy and I am 18. I study environmental engineering at the University of Minnesota in the midwest United States. I was born and raised in the capitol city of Minnesota called St. Paul. The University I study at is in Minneapolis, which is about 20 minutes away from my home. I spend a lot of time outdoors. I enjoy camping, hiking, and kayaking amongst other outdoor activities. I like all kinds of sports, play the piano, ukulele, and clarinet and also take part in many clubs and organizations at my University.

I have two sisters, one older and one younger. My eldest sister is Megan, 21. She is currently on her last year of study to become an elementary school teacher. My youngest sister is Josie, 16. She is currently in her third year of high school. Both are very cheerful and full of energy. My mother is Julie, 49. She is an elementary school teacher at an American-Indian Magnet school in St. Paul. She just celebrated her 25th year of teaching in the public school system. My father is Chris, 48. He is an information technician for an insurance company. We spend a lot of our spare time together, going on trips and doing other leisure activities. We also have two dogs called Geo and Cache and a Turtle called Tortuga who are all part of the family, and very good friends to all of us. When it comes to professional experience, I have worked since I was 15 years old. I have had multiple jobs in the food service industry working in food trucks during various fairs and festivals. I have also worked at an ice cream shop and as a volleyball referee. After volunteering at a nursing home near my house as a physical therapy assistant for many years, I was able to work as a receptionist there. While working there, I was happy to be able to continue with my volunteering as well.

When it comes to child care experience, I have looked after children in both formal and informal contexts. I used to babysit my younger sister and cousins, as well as children of family friends and neighbors. I have also been in charge of multiple bible camps where I would teach, look after, and provide leadership for children as they took part in a variety of activities including: arts and crafts, outdoor recreation, role playing, singing and dancing, and storytelling. Last year, as a senior in high school I was chosen to be a part of the National Honors Society. Through this program I had the opportunity to tutor a child, age 10, after school twice a week. We did homework, read, reviewed skills, had a snack, and talked about how the week was going. That same year, as part of my senior service project I was able to volunteer once a week at a local elementary school. I volunteered in a first grade classroom. I was able to spend a lot of one-on-one time practicing reading and math skills with the children as well as participating in their daily schedule and assisting the teacher with whatever work she needed done. The school was a mix of children that spoke English and Spanish, so I was excited to be able to work on my Spanish skills throughout my time volunteering. I also was a volleyball coach for two teams at my younger sisters grade school. I can comfortably say that I genuinely enjoy spending time with children.

I have decided to be an au pair because I am very interested in learning about other cultures and countries. I have always enjoyed traveling abroad and canít wait to expand on my cultural and foreign experiences. So, far I have been to Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, and Australia. Thank you for your interest in my application.

I am looking forward to learning all about your country and I would like to become a part of your family.

Kindest Regards, Katy Baker
